Learning By Doing:  Is this the best way for your employee to learn?

Sit at your desk.  Stop moving around.  Stop reading your messages on your phone. These might be the typical instructions in a training classroom filled with employees from different education backgrounds.  
They attend this workshop to be trained by the trainer on a specific topic.  This workshop takes an average of 16hours to 24hours.  We all know that 80% of the information will be lost and retaining level of information is only 20%. 
However, is this the best way your employees learn?  Is there another way?
