Dear
HR, Training & L&D Department,
Have you
wondered what it will be if we can reduce the number of classroom hours to probably
18 minutes? Well, in Ted Talks history of capturing information, they have
identified 18 minutes as the best way to capture and retain information fast.
This has been proven for many years; that Ted Talks focused their topics on 18
minutes only.
Can 18 Minutes be part of a Training
Program – maybe a talk (can this be a training)?
- The answer is Yes. Any learning methodology designed, can be a training for your employee. There is no rule in the book that you need to conduct 2 days for a program. Why not just 18 minutes. However, in Malaysia we know the set back is HRDF which is 7 hours needed for claiming purposes. For all those that don’t need HRDF, do read on.
Why:
- Learning can be draining for the brain. The average adult brain weighs only about 3 pounds but it is an energy hog, inordinate amount of glucose, oxygen and blood flow.
- As the brain takes in new information, burning energy and this leads to exhaustion which happens. That’s why participants that cannot handle this amount of less energy, their brain shuts off ;maybe day dreaming or literally sleeping.
- Glucose enters our brain after being converted into neurotransmitters, chemicals of our brain cells used to send signals to one another.
Therefore our point here is, 18 minutes is all that is
needed to capture ALL INFORMATION. And research has made an 18 minute
learning the ideal source of capturing all information via using 'soft breaks'
–
videos, story-telling and songs that can make information be
recalled back easily or maybe just have activities with debriefing that is
only 18 minutes.
So try it today. Change your trainings to 18
minutes, and see what happens to your employees recollection process.
