As a client told me
recently: “Actually, it cost more for us to search for the right executives on
our own.” By his own calculations, his firm would not only incur direct costs
such as advertising the vacant position but would also end up incurring
indirect costs such as executive time lost when both the HR manager and himself
have to read the many application letters and resumes, and thereafter have to
conducts interviews, etc. And he concluded:”Those executive hours could have
been better spent in pursuing our company business strategies or meeting our
customers.” Again, I cannot help recalling Sun Tzu’s words:
“When one sets in
motion an entire army to chase an advantage, the chances are that he will not
attain it.” - By Sun Tzu
Executive search is
indeed a tedious, lengthy and costly process which could have been avoided by
leaving it to the headhunters.
