Giving Feedback after the training? Are Malaysians afraid to give their opinions?

Scenario:
Training just completed.  Trainer collects all the post questionnaire forms which was filled up by the participants of that workshop. On an average the participants rated this trainer 4 and 5.  Trainer feels overjoyed that he had done a good job.  The next day he receives a call from the Head of Training saying over 50% of the participants from the workshop did not feel his training was effective, this statement was given through their own internal training forms.  The trainer gets shocked because all of the feedbacks that he had collected says postive things about him.    Both customer and trainer are confused.

Looking at this scenario, we assume that the reason why participants dont want to be truthful is they feel afraid of disappointing the trainer, they feel 'lets give this person a chance',  they like to gossip rather than be open about the situation.  This leads to after training confusions.  Participants wont be able to absorbe the learnings they have gone through and the trainer will be confused and irratated on why the participants did not tell him how they felt.  Here are some points to get your participants to understand what exactly is feedback?

1. When is feedback not a feedback?
-Feedback is given only when you are not emotional about it
-Feedback is given only when it is not your personal opinion
-Feedback is given only when it is not an attack on the person dignity

Other points to consider:
2.  How much did you learn when you are given feedback?
3. How can you be sure that your feedback is objective and fair and is not misintepreted as just your personal view?
4. How will you handle the situation when they do not accept what you have to say?

So the next time you engage a trainer to your company, please let your employees whom are attending this training to give their honest feedback!

Happy training guys..
