How would you know if your InHouse trainer is a ConArtist?
This article speaks from my own experience during the first months of starting my business. I was very naïve and believed every word from anyone that looks, speaks and presents himself exceedingly well.
The only mistake that I made is I did not teach myself well on how the entreprenurship world works, how to spotcheck suppliers, how to make sure every communication is documented via invoices and letters. Hence I believe that there are more people like me that get caught in traps not knowing what to do. Its tough being an entrepreneur without any guidance or avenues to seek help (which suppliers should you use, what kind of office should you run, how should an invoice look like, and many more). Not to worry about me, I did loose my money, I did go through many failures and low moments, but the best part is I rebounced back immediately. And now I write this article to teach you how to detect a liar especially a trainer who is supposed to teach learning but is a professional con artist.
To make sure your trainer going to train your participants for a particular In-House training, is the exact one you are seeking for, please don’t believe his ‘good looks’ his professional module, his fantastic website and his online books or testimonials of many people talking about him (this can be other con artist paid to talk good about him). Please do an extra effort of facebooking him and checking sites about his company name or his own name.
Until today I have not found a site where I can search on the persons name if he or she is a con-artist but here are some sites you can search or report to:
a. http://www.scamchecker.com/ (can check to see if other reports are similar to yours)
d. Malaysian Association of Speakers Federation
e. Human Resource Development Fund
f. Human Resource Ministry
Trust your instincts. If a training feels “off”, then it probably is. At the very least, it is likely not a good training for you. Decline trainers that do not align with your professional values, ethics or area of expertise. Don’t waste your time (or your money) on trainings that feel “off”. There are other trainers waiting for you who would love to work with you and are merely valued trainers meant to teach your participants well.
