5 Tips of Choosing the Right Training Company or Trainer
TheLearningMatchMaker have partnered with leading corporations in their quests to find the right training company or trainer who can help achieve development goals of employees in the organizations. Based on our experience with our clients, TheLearning MatchMaker has recognized five areas where companies HR/Training Department can gadge the process of choosing training company or trainer, and developing long term relationships with them.
Tip 1 – Qualification of the Trainer Before committing to an In-House Training or sending your staff for a Public Workshop, check the qualification of that specific trainer scheduled to conduct the trainings. Does the trainer have the right qualifications on the course you are participating in? Are the qualifications approved by right authorities?
Tip 2 – A proven track record of the Trainer Be wary of bogus ‘success stories’ and ‘testimonials’. Many of these are made up and include clients who have not completed the courses with the trainer or clients who have just requested quotes but have not engaged the trainer! Make sure you make at least 3 phone calls to the trainers past clients mentioned to you. If the HR/Training Department aren’t the same as before, the right connection is always to the secretary of the CEO of the company. These ladies often stick on longer than anybody else hence they would know happenings in the company.
Tip 3 - Look for experienced Training Companies who have trainers that have been successful in that particular field You see many training companies in Malaysia are vehicles to drive the trainings, eg: they do the marketing of the particular subject, they coordinate the modules and they source for trainers either from other training companies or freelancers. The trainers that you meet at your workshops most often are not from that same training company. This is not a bad thing. However, do find out more information on the training company that you have engaged a particular training with, so that you don’t end up paying your course in advance and the next you hear from them is the course you have registered have been postponed or cancelled.
Tip 4 – Cheapest is not always the best value! The quality of your training is crucial as opposed to just identifying the qualification and experience of the training company or the trainer. TheLearningMatchMaker have done research on average price of InHouse Trainings and would like to share this information with you.
InHouse Trainings (People Development and non-certification trainings)
Training For Senior Managers and Above
Per Day Rate: RM8000 min to RM25000 maximum
Training For executives to Managers
Per Day Rate: RM5000 min to RM8000 maximum
Training for Lower Level to Executives

Tip 5 - Flexibility is the key Not every employee can take a block of time away from work to complete a full time course for 2 days or sometimes more, therefore training company or trainer that offer full time and flexible learning options is often the best bet. If for any reason you do miss an element of the course you don’t want to be waiting months or even a year for you to catch up on that course! Therefore speak with the training company or the trainer to find out their flexibilities.
